The annual Quality of Life survey, published today, placed Orkney as the second most desirable place to live based on several factors. Researchers considered aspects such as standard of education, crime rates, traffic, life expectancy and weekly earnings in local authorities. Orkney has Britain’s highest employment rate, at 87 per cent, compared with the average of 73.6 per cent.
