OTTAWA—Both opposition parties have asked the federal ethics commissioner to investigate whether a Liberal MP from Brampton broke parliamentary rules by helping his business associate hobnob with high-ranking officials during the prime minister’s trip to India last month. Grewal, a first-term MP for Brampton-East, has received “employment income” from Yenilmez’s company, ZGemi Inc., since April 2017, according to his public disclosure on the ethics commissioner’s website. Last week, he told the Star that Yenilmez organized his own way to India and that the two did not travel there together. In an email to the Star, Yenilmez said the company’s relationship with Grewal was cleared with the ethics commissioner. According to Margot Booth, a spokesperson for the commissioner, the ethics code doesn’t restrict sources of employment income until MPs become parliamentary secretaries or members of cabinet.
