Organizers of a new opioid treatment program planned for Kitsap County received a cordial reception Thursday night during an introductory forum at the Norm Dicks Government Center. "We understand you had some history here," said Tom Schwallie with BayMark Health Services, the contractor tasked with starting the treatment program. The company already operates 73 opioid treatment centers in 15 states. The treatment program will be licensed and strictly regulated by a host of federal and state agencies. Kitsap Public Health District Health Officer Dr. Susan Turner noted accidental hospitalizations related to opioid use have skyrocketed in the county since 2003.
