On August 10, 2017, U.S. President Donald Trump called the opioid crisis a national emergency. Gary Mendell, founder and CEO of Shatterproof, reacted to the Trump declaration by saying, "President Trump can call the opioid crisis whatever he wants. Bloomberg continued by stating that:President Donald Trump declared opioid addiction a public health emergency, and he talks a tough game. The public health emergency declaration means nothing unless it is coupled with specific responsibilities, deadlines, and action plans." There isn't a stronger "really, really a nationwide public health emergency" or a "public health emergency and I know it" declaration that you can rely on later.
