Roughly 1.2 per cent of new cars sold in North American are equipped with a manual transmission. And, yes, journalists have been sounding an alarm about the death of the manual transmission for more than a decade now. But even outside of electric cars, the manual transmission is struggling to find an audience. In fact, manual transmissions were almost three times as popular in North American in 2010 — about 3.4 per cent of cars sold that year had a manual transmission. A Honda Civic Type R without a manual transmission holds no appeal for me whatsoever.
