After the self-inflicted wounds of 2011, Groupon never regained its luster. For one thing, it helped make Chicago a tech-startup hotbed in the 2010s and drew a lot of digital talent and investment to the city. Before writing off Groupon entirely, remember that its meteoric rise was fueled in part by people looking for deals during a recession.
