Operation Gipsy breaks 'particularly insidious group'

Police from Timaru and Canterbury have made 13 arrests following Operation Gipsy. Aoraki area commander Inspector Dave Gaskin said while Operation Gipsy had succeeded in “breaking one little group” at the heart of the meth problem in the region, labelling it “a particularly insidious group”, the arrests may only make a temporary dent. Police executed 22 search warrants at multiple addresses between Temuka and Oamaru late last week, as part of the operation targeting meth. “I don’t think it's any better or worse in South Canterbury, we’re probably the same as any other small provincial town. If there is demand here, there will be supply.”He said there are “certainly’’ many other crimes being committed in South Canterbury that have direct links to meth.
