The Washington Post report comes just a day after other media reports showed that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission was investigating the firm after a major upheaval in its top leadership in November, which included the abrupt firing and reinstatement of CEO Sam Altman. OpenAI had completely revamped its board after the debacle, removing the group of directors that had attempted to oust Altman, and appointing new board chaired by former Twitter Chair Bret Taylor and consisting of former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: ), which is OpenAI’s biggest backer, will also take a non-voting, observing seat on the board.
