Ontario schools get $784M for additions, new buildings

As part of capital funds for education included in the 2018 budget , the government has promised the money for new buildings and additions to 79 schools. Ontario schools are scheduled for $784 million in makeovers this year. However, parent advocacy group Fix Our Schools says there is a $15 billion backlog of maintenance and repairs. That will roughly double the number of guidance counsellors currently in elementary schools, giving students the same supports provided to secondary students. Meanwhile, post-secondary students — 225,000 of whom have benefitted from the Liberals’ free tuition plan — qualify when their family’s income is lower than $90,000.
