Ontario pension plan buys stake in European Camping Group


Funds are cashing in on a trend for upmarket campingThe Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan is to buy a 40 per cent stake in European Camping Group from Carlyle, the American private equity group, and the Paris-based Montefiore Investment for an undisclosed sum. The French-based holiday company, which owns the Eurocamp brand among others, had revenue of €230 million last year. The two private funds are cashing in on the trend for upmarket camping with a sale valuing the business at roughly €700 million. Carlyle, Montefiore and the management of European Camping will retain the rest of the shares in the mobile home operator, which runs 20,000 units and 1,000 tents, mainly in France, Spain, Italy and Croatia.
