Ontario’s Wynne brings back big deficits and Justin Trudeau could get sideswiped


We’ve had an era of guaranteed balanced budget legislation and it was once the mark of responsible governing. Besides Wynne, Alberta’s New Democrats will run an $8.8 billion deficit this year and face five more years of deficit ahead. Then there are the Trudeau Liberals, who have doubled down on spending with little regard to the deficit. They tabled a February budget that carries an $18.1 billion deficit, when a $3 billion contingency fund is counted. Trudeau had pledged to cap deficits at $10 billion and a return to balanced books by the 2019 campaign.
