Basketball, volleyball, centerpiece athletics and swimming are the events eyed in a reduced NCAA calendar if ever Season 96 can ever take off. “The NCAA is seriously considering it,” a source privy to the league told The STAR yesterday. To save cost, the league would do away with the lavish opening ceremonies which were a regular staple in the past. The NCAA had cut short its previous season, with no general champion crowned for the first time in decades. Twenty-six events were to be played in the season calendar but only 11 were completed.
