At present, the verification request is sent from the RPO to the jurisdictional station, after which the constable in charge of verification takes prints of the personnel particulars form and the questionnaire and then goes to the spot for verification. After visiting the applicant’s address, they can upload the data directly to the police commissioner’s office. Police verification to issue passports is set to go online from Saturday, and requests going to five stations under the central division (Ashoknagar, Viveknagar, Cubbon Park, High Grounds and Ulsoor Gate) will be the first to start benefiting. Furthermore, the online mode ensures transparency as it is GPS-enabled and makes it clear whether the constable went for a spot check. Officials of the Regional Passport Office (RPO) and the police, who held a meeting on the proposal on Thursday, are said to have already tried the new mode of verification before fixing Saturday as the date for a soft launch.
