(CNN) A 16-year-old suspect faces an attempted murder charge after he allegedly shot another teenager near a northern California high school on Tuesday, Santa Rosa police said. The suspect, who is a student at Ridgway High School, had a verbal altercation with the victim, a 17-year-old student at the school, Capt. The suspect then fired multiple rounds, hitting the victim twice, Cregan said. Police believe the suspect put the handgun in a backpack and gave it to someone who left the scene, Cregan said. Police officers search for a suspect in the shooting near Ridgway High School in Santa Rosa, California.
