One-third women diagnosed with vulvar cancer below 50


Research was conducted on 76 patients to evaluate the overall scenario of vulvar cancer patientsOne-third (34%) of women in the country suffering from vulvar cancer are below 50 years of age, said cancer researcher Dr Farhana Kalam, resident Gyne Onocology unit, National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital. She disseminated the results of her research on vulvar cancer at the Bangladesh International Cancer Congress-2019 at Army Golf Club in Dhaka on Friday. She recommended setting up of more vulvar cancer clinics in Bangladesh and across the world and developing proper referral system to combat vulvar cancer. The research was conducted on 76 patients with vulvar cancer attending Gyne Oncology unit II of (National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital) NICRH. Dr Santosh Memon from India, said cancer treatment is never “one size fits all” process, adding, every patient is unique and oncologists have to treat cancer resepectively.
