To put a fine point on it: The idea that Congress will have a better understanding than Facebook of how Facebook should be constrained seems … optimistic. It’s not clear, though, that members of Congress are exceptions to the suggestion raised by Pew’s data. In the period since, most have been focused on things besides understanding how Facebook collects and distributes data. Members of Congress also presumably spend a lot less time exploring Facebook than other Americans and have spent less of their lives engaged in and on the Internet. In an interview with Wired, Zuckerberg raised another way in which Congress might not be sufficiently representative: His user base is global.
