Police received a call for a fire at 70 Roncesvalles Ave., a three-storey residential building near Roncesvalles Ave. and Queen St. W., around 10:30 p.m., according to Toronto police 11 Division Sgt. One person dead after a fire in a basement apartment at a Parkdale residence Tuesday night, Toronto firefighters say. Toronto Fire Services said firefighters encountered heavy smoke battling the flames in the basement of the building. They discovered one person inside the basement apartment who had died as a result of the fire. One other person who may have been a bystander sustained minor injuries in the fire, firefighters said.
