A man was shot and critically injured Wednesday night during a protest in Charlotte, N.C. following the fatal shooting of a black man by a police officer earlier this week. — City of Charlotte (@CLTgov) September 22, 2016City officials initially tweeted that the injured man had died and that the fatal shots were fired by another civilian. Police in riot gear then began marching arm in arm through downtown Charlotte intersections, shooting tear gas at people who charged them. Paramedics said two other people and six police officers suffered minor injuries in addition to the critically injured man. Chief Putney said the police version of Tuesday's shooting was "based on evidence" and testimony from eyewitnesses.
