One of the oldest Kiwis has died aged 107PENNIE LITTLE Rita Turtill, who died this week aged 107, tries her first Indian curry at the age of 102. One of New Zealand's oldest residents has died. Canterbury woman Rita Turtill, 107, died on Monday after spending the last 13 years of her life living at Cameron Courts rest home in Ashburton. Born in 1910, the Ashburton woman whose maiden name was Smallbone, went on to marry professional cyclist Hubert Turtill in 1936. Rita Turtill worked as an examiner, or quality controller, in a Christchurch factory for many years.
