One million Covid-19 cases highlight Ramaphosa's dilemma - how will govt fight the second wave?


South Africa's total recorded cases of Covid-19 infections surpassed the one million mark this weekend. Measuring such infections is not an exact science, as the total number of excess deaths this year - almost 60 000, according to the South African Medical Research Council - is a lot more than the number of people known to have died of Covid-19, which totals 26 753. Although experts said some of these deaths could have been due to people postponing procedures and doctors' appointments for fear of contracting Covid-19, the figures also indicated a number of Covid-19 cases and deaths have gone unrecorded.
