Five persons who sustained injuries in the crash were admitted to the Hambantota and Tangalle hospitals. Police identified the deceased as a 39-year-old father of three from Bundala in Hambantota. The car had been carrying a group of persons from Bundala who were returning from Colombo after attending the Colombo International Book Fair. According to Hungama police, the occupants of the vehicle consisted of the father, mother, their three children and another woman. The lorry driver has been taken into police custody.
