The crash happened just east of the intersection of State Highway 1 and Hydro Road near Karapiro. One person has died in a crash on Tirau Rd, Karapiro, just before 3.30am Sunday. While details remain sketchy, the driver was the only person in the vehicle that left the road and rolled on State Highway 1, just east of the intersection with Hydro Rd. It is not yet known whether the driver fell asleep at the wheel on the relatively straight piece of road, or whether speed or any other factors played a part in the crash.
