A person is dead after a car crashed into a bridge in Rodney District north of Auckland early today. Fire Service northern shift manager Jaron Phillips said firefighters were called just after 4.20am, after a car crashed into a bridge on a rural road. Police said Matakana Rd had been closed after a single vehicle accident west of Matakana. There were no other passengers in the vehicle. Police said the road would be closed for several hours while the scene was cleared and the Serious Crash Unit investigated.
