A person has died after a car crashed off the Pekatahi Bridge, south of Whakatāne. Emergency crews were alerted to the single-vehicle crash about 5.30pm on Monday. Early reports indicate a car drove off the Pekatahi Bridge crossing the Whakatāne River. The bridge will remain closed overnight as the police Serious Crash Unit examine the scene.
