A convoy of truckers reached Ottawa on January 29 after crossing the country from British Columbia in protest against a cross-border vaccine mandate. As crowds converged on Parliament Hill, a number of them were seen near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.Commodore Steven Thornton, a direct general at the Department of National Defence, tweeted this video showing the scene as one person stood on top of the tomb. His wife, Tasha Thornton, told Storyful, “We walked away feeling frustrated and incredibly saddened of of our fellow Canadians’ behaviour.”The incident prompted Gen Wayne Eyre, chief of Canada’s defense staff, to tweet: “I am sickened to see protesters dance on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and desecrate the National War Memorial. Generations of Canadians have fought and died for our rights, including free speech, but not this. Those involved should hang their heads in shame.” Credit: Tasha Thornton via Storyful
