Mike Brearley Calcutta: The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC)'s World Cricket Committee, which meets in Mumbai on Tuesday-Wednesday, will "debate" the possibility of introducing on-field "disciplinary measures" in the laws of the sport. Founded as far back as 1787, 90 years before the first Test, the MCC remains the "guardian/custodian" of the laws of the game. "Has the stage been reached where it has become necessary for on-field sanctions to be codified in the laws? The on-field sanctions could include a player being sent off for a period of time or, in extreme cases, even shown the equivalent of a red card... "Currently, the laws of cricket don't provide for on-field disciplining, say on the lines of soccer. Some words on the protocol involved... Changes in the laws of the sport are first debated and finalised by Brearley's Committee.
