In this time of increasing income inequality, the idea that capitalism is the best means of distributing wealth has been questioned by many people including Pope Francis. The businessman believes that he or she is “creator” of wealth and that the most important motivation in creating wealth is the maximization of profit. If the provision of social services – education, health, housing, transportation – is left to capitalism or the so-called market forces, there will be severe inequality as the inequality of wealth continues to worsen.
