On Oct. 17, Edmonton got record-breaking high ... in temperature

17 will go down in Canadian history as a day of high times with the legalization of cannabis — and Edmonton’s temperature was no exception. The city hit a high of 24.3 C as of 4 p.m. on Wednesday, breaking a record for the mid-October day going back to 1901, said Blaine Lowry, a meteorologist with Environment Canada. Edmonton hit a record-breaking high of 24.3 C for Oct. 17. Chris Nelson, who runs the blog Edmonton Weather Nerdery, posted a graph on Twitter illustrating the temperature using data from Environment Canada going back to the year 1880. He scrapes data from the Environment Canada website and uses Excel to create graphs that contextualize the day’s weather.
