GraphicON THE BATTLEFIELDThe first Indian Army formation to participate in the war was Force K6 of the Royal Indian Army Service Corps, stationed in France. It was then in the December of 1942 when the first Indian forces were pressed into action. AFPBefore long the Indian forces would go on to face Field Marshall Erwin ‘Desert Fox’ Rommel and his Afrika Korps. While the Indian Army was fighting valiantly on the western battlefields, it was the east where its most critical test lay. To repel the advancing Japanese forces in Burma, Indian forces launched the Arakan campaign in December 1943.
