My 17-year-old daughter, born in the United States and adopted at birth, will tell you very clearly that adoption is a terrible thing. She loves us and we are her parents — and she still thinks adoption is a terrible thing. We should confront the racism and classism that drive American parents to seek out foreign adoptions so they don’t have to deal with their kids’ biological families. But I was startled to read his claim that adoption from China has been free from abuses.
