“As you scan the Olympic medal tally, one thing stands out: larger countries tend to win more medals,” the website, MedalsPerCapita.com states. That’s one spot ahead of the United States which, despite having 2,401 medals to Canada’s 278, only averages a medal for every 130,521 people. The website was launched in 2008 by New Zealand-born Craig Nevill-Manning, an engineer who worked at Google for 12 years. “The obvious next question is: who leads the world in medals per capita? This site, which is updated daily during the Olympics, provides the answer.”Canada ranks 36th on the all-time list, with one medal for every 125,076 people.
