SYDNEY (AP) " Australia's double Olympic and 11-time world champion Anna Meares has announced her retirement from cycling aged 33. Meares won six medals across four Olympic games, beginning with gold in the 500 meters time trial at Athens in 2004. She won gold in the individual sprint at London in 2012, silver in the same event at Beijing in 2008 and bronze medals at Athens and London. Meares' silver medal in Beijing came only seven months after she suffered a broken neck in a crash which was thought likely to end her career. Meares finished 10th in the individual sprint at Rio and had taken time away from cycling after the games to decide her future.
