NEW DELHI: On the occasion of International Olympic Day , TOI Sports is recapping some of the glorious Indian moments at the Summer Games over the years. In this instalment, relive Abhinav Bindra 's historic gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Abhinav Bindra made history by winning a gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle event and ended India's excruciating wait for an individual gold medalist at the Summer Games. It was also India's first Olympic yellow medal since 1980 when its men's hockey team returned home on a high.To achieve his dream, Bindra left no stone unturned and even scaled a 40 feet high 'pizza pole' to overcome his fear. Following that, Bindra limited his competitive appearances but bounced back with a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Post-retirement, he was appointed to the PM's task force on the preparations for the next three Olympic Games.In march, he bagged the TOISA Shooter of the Year Award at the Mahindra Scorpio Times of India Awards in Mumbai.
