In parts of our media, Catholic faith has been declared dead and, along with it, a faith tradition going back thousands of years. The tacit independence gained from the Catholic Church over the last three decades ought to be no different. And 11,000 couples get married in a Catholic church every year, almost half of all marriages. Some 89 per cent of people identified with a religious faith in the last census. As a non-believer, I fear we will lose something important and good if we charge ahead and throw the baby Jesus out with the bath water.
