Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Manchester United were responsible for Erling Haaland not joining the club. The Red Devils began tracking the youngster following his stellar display in Red Bull Salzburg’s 6-2 win over Genk in September, in which he scored a hat-trick. Solskjaer instructed his personal scout to keep tabs on the forward’s progress and was keen to acquire his services this month. United, however, were pipped to the Norwegian’s signature by Borussia Dortmund, who snapped up Salzburg’s prized asset for £17million. Red Devils fans were bitterly disappointed to have missed out on the highly-touted prospect, who scored 28 goals in 22 appearances before leaving Austria.
