Oldest Human Footprints In North America Found On Canadian Coast

2018 / PLOS One / CC-BY SA 4.0Along the shore of tiny Calvert Island, not far from Vancouver, researchers found a series of human footprints in 2015. Thorough analysis of the prints has now revealed they are the oldest in North America, made by several people more than 13,000 years ago. Human trackways are rarely found by archaeologists, with some - such as the Laetoli footprints - becoming the stuff of legend in anthropology textbooks. The Calvert Island tracks are particularly intriguing because, even in antiquity, there was no way to reach the island except by watercraft. There is a high possibility that more footprints will be discovered on Calvert Island in the future.
