The continuing popularity of cruises as the one that takes in Geiranger fjord in Norway has helped Saga to raises its underlying profits by 6 per cent Getty ImagesThe pound may have tumbled since the vote to quit the European Union, but it doesn’t appear to be stopping older people from heading for cruise ships and holidays afloat, Saga said yesterday. “We have had a very robust response from customers who have worked hard from when they were 20 to 60,” Lance Batchelor, chief executive of the holidays to insurance company, said. “They are now absolutely determined to enjoy their 60s and 70s. There is no good waiting for the economy to point in a different direction.”It has meant plain saling for Saga, which reported underlying profits that had risen by 6 per cent to £110 million for the six months to July 31 compared with the same time last year.
