Oil tanker, cargo ship collide in Kirtonkhola river

An oil tanker and a clinker-laden cargo ship have collided in Barisal’s Kirtonkhola river on Friday morning. The collision between the Barisal-bound oil tanker from Chittagong MT Fazal and Narayanganj-bound clinker-laden cargo from India MV Maa Babar Doa took place near Char Kawa. The collision had caused a rupture in the tanker through which around 200 litres of oil spilled in the river. Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Deputy Director Azmal Huda Sarker Mithu said soon after the collision, oil began to spill in the river through a fissure developed in a chamber of the tanker. The cargo and the tanker were shored to Char Kawa and Chadmari areas respectively, he added.
