Ogun to adopt global standard in waste management


THE Ogun State Government said it would adopt global best practices in waste management for a cleaner environment. This was stated by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Mrs Yetunde Dina, during the presentation of the final Feasibility Study Report on the State Waste Management Project, sponsored by the Agence Francaise De Development (AFD, at her office, recently. While assuring that Government would study the report and take necessary actions, the Permanent Secretary declared that dump sites located within build-up settlements would be relocated to prevent an epidemic. According to her, new trends in waste management goes beyond carting and dumping of waste, as such can no longer be regarded as unwanted materials, rather, raw materials and sources of wealth. Speaking the Project Manager, Miss Karine Escande said the Project would increase waste collection rate, improve the solid waste management to international standard and conversion of waste to energy.
