A major defence development is unfolding in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka, where senior officials from the Pakistan Navy and China’s state-owned defence company NORINCO are currently present. Reports suggest that a large three-nation defence agreement involving Bangladesh, Pakistan, and China could be finalised soon. The Chinese NORINCO delegation is headed by Ding Weimin, the Asia-Pacific General Manager of the Chinese government-owned arms manufacturer. On February 3, the NORINCO team reportedly held detailed discussions on technical specifications for spare parts and payment terms. As part of this plan, the army is upgrading its armoured vehicle fleet and is heavily dependent on Chinese defence companies, especially NORINCO.
