A Taranaki man claimed a hitchhiker had given him P and a glass pipe as a thank you gift. The New Plymouth District Court was told Calvin John Norgate had been stopped by police in Mokau on March 15 before his car was searched. "In explanation he said a hitchhiker gave it to him as a thank you," MacKenzie said. Norgate was ordered to pay $500, plus court costs of $230.
