Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first ever All-Ireland ladies football final at Croke Park last Sunday were members of the Offaly ladies team who lined out against Tipperary in 1974. Offaly’s ladies football trail blazers honoured in Croke ParkPrevious Next Image 1 of 1 Brendan Martin, who guided the Offaly ladies football team to the first All-Ireland final in 1974, is presented with a special commemorative medal to mark the 50th anniversary by Trina Murray from Moate, President-elect of the LGFA, at a ceremony in Croke Park last Sunday. She said it was “an honour” to have the members of the Offaly team in Croke Park. Ms Murray said these players had “paved the way” for the development of ladies football which is now of the fastest growing sports in the world. The year was 1981, with the men's senior hurlers and footballers and the senior ladies all lining out in finals!
