Off-ice chirps: Irving gas station manager sells ‘Leafs fan’s tears’ after early playoff knockout

HALIFAX — Toronto Maple Leafs fans saw their tears being sold in bottles at an Irving gas station in Pictou, N.S., after their team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Boston Bruins. Hugh MacEachern was overjoyed when they were knocked out and went to his computer at the Irving gas station he manages to print off the new labels for water bottles. In the small town in northern Nova Scotia “there’s a lot of hockey banter flying around,” said MacEachern during a phone interview. A Montreal Canadiens fan for 43 years now, he’s been on the worst end of it this season. “A couple months ago, one Leafs fan told me that he hated the Habs so badly that he wished the entire franchise died in a plane crash,” he said — so he decided to pay it back.
