Off duty SAPS National Intervention Unit (NIU) members intervened when they heard the sound of gunshots while training at St Georges beach early yesterday evening, July 25. "The members intervened, and with the assistance of another NIU member, both suspects were apprehended. "The stolen property, cash; cellphone; clothing; cigarettes were found in their possession," said Janse Van Rensburg. "A 9mm firearm, one magazine with and four rounds of ammunition and a toy firearm were confiscated. "Both suspects, aged 28 and 30 years old, were detained on charges of robbery with a firearm, illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition," added Janse Van Rensburg.
