Ted Cruz said his family vacation to Mexico was “obviously a mistake” as he returned stateside Thursday following an uproar over his disappearance during a deadly winter storm. “Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon,” Cruz wrote. “It was obviously a mistake, and in hindsight, I wouldn't have done it," he said. While the situation will not help Cruz's political future, the two-term senator is not in any immediate political danger. Cruz checked in for his return flight Thursday afternoon in Cancun and walked briskly through the terminal pulling a roller bag to security.
