Jacqueline Nuki Fogarty was born in Kumeu in 1923, the second child of Henry Fogarty and Sarah Rita Fogarty (nee Brigham). Henry had been badly gassed in World War I and took work growing strawberries partly out of a need to convalesce. Upon leaving school, Jill worked as a secretary at Henry's business in Customs Street. Supplied Jacqueline Nuki McVinnie receives her Queens Service Medal in 2014. She was a co-convenor of a Waikato group that assisted with the making of the Globe Theatre stage curtain and travelled to London to witness its unveiling.
