In 2011 the Obama Administration infamously supported the ‘Arab Spring’ in Libya which removed and killed Muammar Gaddafi who had ruled the country as a dictator since 1969. Today, the NATO support of the Libyan revolution looks to be foolish as Russian and Chinese forces battle the UN-backed government for control of Tripoli. “Without putting boots on the ground, the U.S. needs to take an active role in Libya,” he declared. Libya can claim centuries of great power competition between Christian Europe and the Ottoman forces which eventually Islamized most of the population. This cycle is continues today as one more consequence of failed American intervention in North Africa and the Middle East.
