Obama says Army Corps examining Dakota Access oil pipeline route

President Barack Obama says the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is examining whether the four-state Dakota Access oil pipeline can be rerouted in southern North Dakota to alleviate the concerns of Native Americans. The 1,900-kilometres, $3.8-billion US pipeline will carry oil from North Dakota through South Dakota and Iowa to a shipping point at Patoka, Illinois. U.S. President Barack Obama said Tuesday his administration will let the situation surrounding the Dakota Access pipeline "play out for several more weeks." The pipeline is largely complete outside of North Dakota. Enbridge Energy Partners L.P., an affiliate of Calgary-based Enbridge Inc., announced in August it was spending $1.5 billion US to acquire a stake in the Bakken Pipeline System, which includes the Dakota Access pipeline and the Energy Transfer Crude Oil pipeline.
