Obama had to explain Trump’s election win and the racial attacks to his daughters. Here’s what he said

After Donald Trump’s win stunned the White House, President Barack Obama was faced with the task of assuring not only his staff, but also his young daughters, that despite defeat, there will be ways to move forward. Societies and cultures are really complicated … This is not mathematics; this is biology and chemistry,” Obama told the New Yorker’s David Remnick. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a hate watch group, more than 700 reports of incidents and harassment have been reported since Election Day. Obama told his teenage daughters that they, too, must expect such racially motivated hatred. “We want to make sure that they feel welcome as they prepare to make this transition,” Obama told reporters.
