President Barack Obama fired back at Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for his claim earlier this week that black people in America are worse off than ever before. “Even an 8-year-old could tell you that whole slavery thing wasn’t good for black people,” Obama told ABC’s Robin Roberts while walking through the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. While speaking on Tuesday in Kenansville, North Carolina ― a city that, like the nation’s capital, is named for a slave owner ― Trump claimed black communities in America are worse under Obama than ever before. “We’re going to make our country safe again. We’re going to rebuild our inner cities because our African-American communities are absolutely in the worst shape that they’ve ever been in before,” he said.
